Thymectomy is a surgical procedure to treat Myasthenia Gravis, which is a neuromuscular disorder; thymus removal is also advised to those suffering from thymoma or tumour growth in the thymus gland. This procedure involves the removal of the thymus gland through one of the three surgical techniques; a transsternal thymectomy, transcervical thymectomy, or Robotic thymectomy and Video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy (VATS) in order to relax the nerves.
