Simple Cystectomy


The term simple cystectomy can be defined as the removal of the bladder without affecting the adjacent organs and tissues such as prostate, seminal vesicles, urethra in male and vagina, uterus, urethra in the female. The lymph nodes are not put for dissection. It is indicated as a means of treatment in cases that require urinary diversion for performing benign processes of the bladder such as radiation and interstitial cystitis, neurogenic bladder and incontinence. After the removal of the bladder, the concerned surgeon performs a kind of urinary diversion to allow the continuity of urine flow.
