Parotidectomy – Superficial

blog

Removal of the parotid gland superficial to the plane of the facial nerve is known as superficial parotidectomy and it is indicated in benign and malignant tumours of the parotid gland. A general anaesthetic is induced before starting the surgery to put the patient to sleep. The surgeon starts by making a cut in front of the ear all the way down to the neck forming a flap on the surface of the parotid gland to expose the tissue to be removed.
