Operation for Duodenal Atresia

The congenital condition of the fetus where the portion of or the complete duodenal lumen is blocked is known as the congenital duodenal atresia. This causes accumulation of amniotic fluid in the pregnant mother and restriction of bowel movement in the child. Early treatment includes removing fluids from the stomach via a nasogastric tube and providing the fluids intravenously. The definitive treatment for Duodenal Atresia is duodenoduodenostomy, which may be performed openly or laparoscopically.
