Mandibulectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the partial or complete removal of the lower jaw or mandible indicated in infectious etiologies (eg, osteomyelitis), osteoradionecrosis, benign or malignant tumours that involve the jaw, severe oral and maxillofacial trauma if a section of the mandible is not salvageable. The surgeon will separate the tumour from the jaw and the adjoining soft tissue. Then the plastic surgeon will conduct a reconstructive jaw surgery using the transferred tissue.
