It is found in a new study that an augmented risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is there in women who are doing mentally tiring jobs. As per the study, there should be more awareness among women and employers about the possible health risks linked with work that is mentally tiring.

In a study, the impact of mentally tiring work on 70,000 women with diabetes was examined during the span of 22 years. Of these women, around 75% were in the profession of teaching. Approx 24% have reported that at the start of study they find their work to be mentally tiring.

It was found in the study that there were 21% more chances of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus incidences in women if they find that they are having mentally tiring jobs. This disease was not dependent on usual risk factors such as smoking status, level of physical activity, age, blood pressure, dietary habits, BMI, and family history of the disease.

As per the researchers, it is stated that we cannot conclude straight as to what has resulted in the enhanced risk of diabetes in these women. However, it was indicated by our results that it was not because of typical risk factors of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The results highlight the significance of taking mental tiredness into account as a diabetes risk factor in women.

Doctors undergoing experiments said that both Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and mentally tiring work are incidents that are increasingly prevalent. What we have recognized is that there is a stronger impact of support at the workplace on work-related stress in women as compared to men.
Therefore, in hectic work environments, better support for women can help in the prevention of chronic conditions like Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
