Laparotomy for Ovarian Cystectomy

Laparotomy for Ovarian Cystectomy refers to a surgery in which a larger incision (larger cut than incisions made for laparoscopy) is made in the abdomen to surgically remove cysts in the ovary (performed when the cyst is large or maybe cancerous). One larger incision is made in the belly, and then the surgeon may remove the whole cyst and the ovary and send it to a laboratory to determine whether it is cancerous. The incision is then closed with stitches or staples.
