Laparoscopic Vesicovaginal fistula Repair

blog

Vesico vaginal fistula refers to an abnormal fistula (connection) between the urinary bladder and the vagina which leads to continuous unintentional urine discharge into the vaginal vault. Under general anesthesia, a laparoscope is inserted through the urethra to determine the location of the fistula. A very small incision is made around the fistula and instruments are inserted to cut the fistula out or sew it closed. The surgeon separates the outer walls of the vagina and the bladder and closes the incision with stitches.
