Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia repair (Transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) /Totally extraperitoneal (TEP) )

Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia repair is a surgery performed to repair an inguinal hernia (a weakness in the abdominal cavity wall through which body tissue/internal organs, especially a part of the intestine, escapes in the area of groin). In TAPP, the peritoneal cavity is reached laparoscopically and a mesh is placed through an incision made on the peritoneum (a thin membrane covering the abdominal organs) over sites where hernia may possibly occur. In TEP, the surgeon does not enter the peritoneal cavity and seals the hernia laparoscopically using mesh, from outside the peritoneum.
