Island Flap

blog

Island Flap is a conventional workhorse flap indicated for axillary and shoulder reconstruction. It consists of the skin and subcutaneous tissue along with a pedicle made up of only the nutrient vessels. During the surgery, the arc of rotation of the island flap is extended by sectioning the teres major muscle so the flap can be passed anteriorly towards the anterior thoracic wall and breast areas.
