HFOV (High-frequency oscillatory ventilation)

blog

High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) is a form of ventilatory support. It is responsible to deliver extremely small tidal volumes at very high rates to maintain a relatively constant and higher mean airway pressure than in mechanical ventilation. These properties make HFOV an ideal mode of ventilation for lung protection. Indications of HFOV include persistent pulmonary hypertension of an infant, meconium aspiration syndrome, pneumothorax, pulmonary interstitial emphysema, severe respiratory syndrome, and pulmonary hypoplasia.
