Excision of Thyroglossal Cyst/Fistula


During developmental stages, leftover cells and tissues after the formation of the thyroid gland results in the formation of irregular mass in the neck are known as a thyroglossal cyst. A cyst can be asymptomatic or can cause symptoms like throat pain, difficulty in swallowing. Unexpectedly rupture of the cysts may result in the formation of thyroglossal fistula resulting in symptoms like difficulty in breathing or swallowing. Sistrunk operation is done to remove the cyst surgically.
