Endomyocardial biopsy

An endomyocardial biopsy involves the collection of heart tissue for diagnostic purposes. This procedure is used to monitor the transplants for signs of rejection and to diagnose particular inflammatory heart disorders such as myocarditis, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, and hemochromatosis. This procedure is conducted via the internal jugular vein or in some cases via femoral veins with the assistance of echocardiography.
