Endarterectomy (Carotid)

Carotid endarterectomy refers to a procedure done to treat carotid artery disease (deposit of fatty, waxy deposit build-up in a carotid artery in the neck). In this procedure, under general surgery, an incision is made along the front of the neck, opening the carotid artery and removing the plaque (build-up) clogging the artery. Then the artery is repaired with stitches or with a patch made with a vein or artificial material (patch graft).
