The surgical treatment may require the complete or partial destruction of the lacrimal sac. This surgery is known as a Dacryocystectomy. Dacryocystectomy can be performed either by using an external approach, wherein a small incision is made on the side of the nose and some bone is removed to make a connection to the nose; or using an Endoscopic approach, wherein an endoscope is inserted through the nose where an opening is fashioned in the lacrimal sac from within the nose.
