The lacrimal sacs of the eye, more commonly known as the tear duct, can get blocked or suffer inflammation due to different reasons. The inflammation can even be caused by a tumor. The surgical treatment may require the complete or partial destruction of the lacrimal sac. This surgery is known as a Dacryocystectomy. Dacryocystectomy can be performed either by using an external approach, wherein a small incision is made on the side of the nose and some bone is removed to make a connection to the nose; or using an Endoscopic approach, wherein an endoscope is inserted through the nose where an opening is fashioned in the lacrimal sac from within the nose.
