Botulinum injection for blepharospasm or squint

Botulinum toxin injection or botox is given to treat blepharospasm (involuntary spasms of eyelid muscles) and squint (a disorder in which the eyes fail to look exactly in the same direction simultaneously). The doctor injects botulinum toxin or botox into a muscle on the surface of the eye. The toxin causes temporary weakness in the injected muscles, which can help the eyes to obtain proper alignment (for squint) or help to close the eyes (for blepharospasm).
