Blalock-Thomas-Taussig shunt surgery

The palliative surgical procedure to increase pulmonary arterial blood flow in patients suffering from the outflow tract obstruction of the right ventricle in the form of pulmonary atresia is called a Blalock-Thomas-Taussig shunt surgery. Compared to the old method, the surgery nowadays uses a synthetic graft, mostly made up of polytetrafluoroethylene, to make a connection of the arteries.
