Anterior Cervical Discectomy

Anterior Cervical Discectomy refers to a surgery in which compression of the spinal cord or nerve roots is treated by decompression of the vertebral column (spinal cord) and nerve roots of the cervical spine in the neck by carrying out a discectomy (surgical removal of an intervertebral disc). This surgery aims at the removal of a herniated or degenerative disc in the neck. The surgeon makes an incision in the throat to reach and remove the disc.
